Exploring Culture and Ethics in Design: Understanding Needs

We design with the user’s needs in mind - but what about the producer’s? This workshop explores a more holistic approach to design, evenly weighing the needs of the producer and the consumer, specifically when engaging with artisans or craft communities. Every step in the development of a product; from concept creation, to material selection, to fabrication methods, require designers to reflect on the impacts of their choices. Work through a more considered design processes in this workshop, engage with culture and become familiar with some tools and techniques that help prioritize ethics in your design.
