Alternative Art Education in Bahrain
Opportunities to pursue creative education can be difficult to access – that’s why we are proud to have established an education programme that has inspired, launched, and guided some of Bahrain’s most exciting art and design talent.
We offer a range of programmes from residencies, long-format courses, short courses, and workshops. Our programmes focus on cultivating both artistic mindsets and technical skillsets through exposure to contemporary themes, theoretical discussion, hands-on experimentation, and mentorship. Whether you are culturally curious, emerging in your field, or looking to reinvent your practice, you’ll find space for you here.

Core learning programs

Theoretical courses
Run over several months, our flagship courses Nexus and Ways of Seeing examine contemporary themes and unpack the thinking and contexts behind interpreting and producing art. We also offer shorter courses covering a range of contemporary topics
Nexus
Offers a creative space for artists, curators, and cultural practitioners to hone their skills and develop their artistic practices. The program focuses on reading, analyzing, and rewriting 20th-century art histories. It includes various activities, lectures, and training opportunities that provide participants with in-depth knowledge of modern and contemporary art movements
Ways of Seeing
Examines major modern and contemporary art movements in the context of the social, cultural, and political events of the past century. This course is designed to familiarize participants with how to read a work of art, unraveling the clues to decipher and understand why one painting, sculpture, installation, or image is valued over another

Skill-based learning
A wide range of artist and designer led workshops covering a variety of mediums from printmaking and photography, to digital tools and fabrication. Usually run over several days, classes are focused on developing technical skillsets through hands-on activities

Studio residencies
Twice a year structured art residencies for emerging and mid-career artists. Culminating in a group exhibition, cohorts are provided with studio space, mentorship, critique, and production support
