“In the Lapse of Tides” is an exploratory journey stretching across time, space, and memory, where the personal intersects with the collective, sound intertwines with silence, and presence becomes absence, The festival draws its title from a natural phenomenon, but reimagines it as a philosophical and cultural metaphor that reflects fluctuation, uncertainty, and transformation. Here, “lapse” is not mere forgetting, but an ontological state, a hidden current that pulls memory, identity, and voice into a grey zone between consciousness and the subconscious. Conversely, the “tide” becomes a moment of retrieval, an aesthetic act of resisting, and reflecting on what has passed and what is yet to emerge.

The “In the Lapse of Tides” Festival invites artists to submit proposals for participation in Muharraq Night Festival – Al Muharraq (1 December – 31 December 2025)
Rooted in the conceptual and geographical terrain of Bahrain, the festival reflects on the entangled notions of transformation, disappearance, and recovery, centring on the idea of “lapse” not as passive absence, but as an existential state of in-betweenness where identity, memory, and place are suspended and reactivated through artistic practice.
Rather than celebrating arrival, the festival proposes a rhythmic map that embraces conscious submersion into what is forgotten, vanishing, or yet to be retrieved.
Submission Requirements:
Artists interested in participating should submit the following materials:

This axis explores philosophical inquiries into existence, absence, and the self, presenting lapse as a rupture in time where silence becomes voice and absence becomes eloquence.

This theme focuses on co-existence, vulnerability, and everyday urban life, proposing the house as a body, and collective sound as an existential echo.

دعوة مفتوحة: في غفلة المدّ والجزر - مهرجان ليالي المحرق
"في غفلة المدّ والجزر" هو رحلة استكشافية تمتد عبر الزمن والمكان والذاكرة، حيث يتقاطع الشخصي بالجمعي، ويتداخل الصوت مع الصمت، ويغدو الحضور غيابًا، والغياب حضورًا. يستمد المهرجان عنوانه من ظاهرة طبيعية المدّ والجزر لكنه يعيد تشكيلها كاستعارة فلسفية وثقافية تعبّر عن التقلّب، اللايقين، والتحوّل. فـ"الغفلة" هنا ليست نسيانًا، بل حالة أنطولوجية، كتيار خفيّ يسحب معه الذاكرة، الهوية، والصوت إلى منطقة رمادية بين الوعي واللاوعي. وفي المقابل، يصبح "المدّ" لحظة استرجاع، فعلًا جماليًا لمقاومة التلاشي، ومساحة للتأمل في ما فات، وما لم يتكوّن بعد.
ويقف المعرض على تقاطع المفاهيم: بين ما هو هام وما هو مهمَل و التى تُمثّل رمزًا لانكشاف المنطقة أمام أسئلة الزمن والاختفاء. عبر أعمال فنية مؤقتة، تركيبات صوتية، ومساحات جماعية، تتحوّل إلى "جزْر رمزي"، تكشف فيه الأرض ما خفي تحتها من طبقات الحكايات والحنين والمقاومة.
ومع حركة "المدّ"، حيث تتكثف الرمزية ويتضاعف الأثر. فالمحرّق، بعاصمتها السابقة، وتاريخها البحري، وأغاني الفجيري، لتحتضن أرشيفًا حيًّا من الحضور والغياب، من الغوص والتجارة والهجرة والانفصال. هنا، يصبح الصوت وثيقةً حسّية للبقاء. ويظهر البحر، لا كمجرد خلفية طبيعية، بل كأرشيف حيّ للهوية والمكان والروح.
"الغفلة" في هذا السياق ليس مجرّد نسيان طارئ، بل حالة فلسفية مركبة. إنها شرخ في الزمن، وحالة بينية يتداخل فيها الإدراك مع اللاوعي. في الغفلة، تُفقد اللغة، ويُخترق الصمت، في لحظة يتوقف فيها الزمن عن القياس. ولذلك، يصبح التذكّر فعلًا جماليًا ومقاومًا، ويغدو الفن وسيلة للاستعادة لا الاستذكار، وساحة للغوص في المسافات ما بين أن نُسمع أو نُنسى، أن نُرى أو نُمحى.

يعكس المهرجان، في بنيته المفاهيمية وموقعه الجغرافي، جدلية التحوّل، التلاشي، والاستعادة، انطلاقًا من مفهوم "الغفلة" باعتبارها حالة وجودية مركّبة، تتقاطع فيها الأسئلة حول الهوية، الذاكرة، والمكان. يُشكّل المهرجان خريطة إيقاعية لا تحتفي بالوصول بقدر ما تحتفي بالغرق الواعي في طبقات ما تم نسيانه، وما هو قيد التلاشي، وما يمكن استعادته من خلال الفن.

محاور المهرجان – كإلهام مفاهيمي للفنانين:
تم بناء المهرجان حول أربعة تيارات مفاهيمية تمثّل مستويات مختلفة من الغفلة، التحول، والصوت الجمعي. تُستخدم هذه المحاور كأطر مرجعية للفنانين أثناء تطوير مقترحاتهم:
١. بين الصوت والصمت
يركز هذا المفهوم على تساؤلات فلسفية حول الوجود، الغياب، والذات. لتقديم مفهوم الغفلة كشرخ زمني، حيث يتحول الصمت إلى صوت، ويغدو الغياب أكثر بلاغة من الحضور. من خلال الأفكار المحورية التالية كمثال:
- الجسد كوسيط للصوت
- البحر كمساحة تأملية لا نهائية
- المقاومة و المحو
٢. خطوات على الماء
يركز هذا المفهوم علي أرشفة غير رسمية للذاكرة الشعبية في منطقة القفول ومنطقة المحرق. لتقديم الترحال كوجود مؤقت، والهوية كحالة غير ثابتة. من خلال الافكار المحوريه التاليه كمثال:
- استعادة ما تلاشى بفعل التحديث
- الفجيري كجسر زمني بين الأجيال
- الأسواق، الطقوس اليومية كمصادر للذاكرة
٣. أثر الموج
يركز هذا المفهوم علي الاقتصاد المتحوّل كقوة تشكيل للمكان والذاكرة و ربطة بمفهوم الموج كقوة غير مرئية تُحدث التحوّل دون أثر مباشر. من خلال الافكار المحوريه التاليه كمثال:
- من الغوص إلى رأس المال
- السوق كذاكرة مكانية
- المرأة كفاعل اقتصادي غير مرئي
٤. الجسد الجماعي
يركز هذا المفهوم على التعايش، الهشاشة، والحياة اليومية في المدينة و ربطة بمفهوم البيت كجسد، والصوت الجمعي كأثر وجودي, من خلال الافكار المحوريه التاليه كمثال:
- العلاقات غير الرسمية بين الجيران
- طقوس العبور اليومية
- المطبخ، الضوء، الأصوات كوسائط تشكيل
الدعم المُقدّم للفنانين المختارين:
- ميزانية إنتاج
- دعم تقني ولوجستي
- دعم بحثي أو أرشيفي (عند الحاجة)
- فرص للمشاركة في حلقات نقاش وورش عمل
