Residency Program

Based in the heart of Manama’s center Block 338, we provide an annual program of 10-15 artist residencies one to three months in duration. Through an open call for proposals and partnerships with international organizations, Al-Riwaq Art Space pays special attention to proposals by cultural practitioners in all media who aim to develop collaborative projects with local Bahraini artists, artisans and diverse communities and meet overall objectives of the residency to encourage contemporary practices and support an emerging art scene. Al Riwaq Art Space especially welcomes proposals centered on public art and drawing on participatory practices.

Artist-in-residence
The Artist in residence program aims to provide a working environment for artists that supports the artistic process and allows them the necessary time and space to develop new projects.

Curator-in-residence
This residency is designed to support curatorial research to investigate and develop areas of interest while developing exhibition proposals to be presented at Al Riwaq Art Space the following year.

Teaching Artist-in-residence
A teaching artist is a professional artist with skills in both teaching and the arts, who will work with students at Al Riwaq Art Space to provide education in the arts.
