Al Riwaq Art Space

As the land expands is an exhibition of art works selected in discussion with local artists and curators for their determined urgency and prevalence to the context of Bahrain.

Certain themes and interests dominated this conversation – these included issues of ecology and land reclamation, national branding, the speed of urban development in the region, and in terms of the success and reach of the Al Riwaq Art Space the need to present art works that would provoke a strong reaction from the gallery’s audience.

The result is an exhibition that involves 15 artists determined by group decision and while their art works do not all relate to any one theme, each one hopefully responds to the location and current concerns and interests within the cultural scene and beyond.
